Active ingredient

Prosulfocarb

Description

Prosulfocarb is a potent active ingredient belonging to the thiocarbamate chemical class, primarily used as a selective herbicide in agricultural crop protection. It is highly valued for its residual soil activity, which provides long-lasting control of a broad range of annual grass and broad-leaved weeds.

The mechanism of action of prosulfocarb involves the inhibition of lipid synthesis within the meristematic tissues of target weeds. By interfering with the development of the shoot and root systems immediately upon germination, the compound prevents weeds from emerging or leads to their rapid death shortly after exposure to the treated soil layer.

This substance is widely utilized in the cultivation of winter cereals, including wheat, barley, and rye, as well as in potato production. It is particularly effective against stubborn weed species such as black-grass, cleavers, chickweed, and various members of the knotweed family, providing a protective barrier that allows the crop to establish without competitive pressure.

Application of prosulfocarb requires careful field preparation to ensure uniform distribution of the herbicide across the soil surface. Soil moisture plays a critical role in its performance, as adequate water levels help activate the compound and stabilize the herbicide film in the upper soil profile, preventing leaching and enhancing weed control efficacy.

Operators must adhere to strict safety measures, including the use of personal protective equipment and compliance with recommended dosage rates. Prosulfocarb exhibits a favorable toxicological profile regarding honeybees, yet care must be taken to minimize spray drift and prevent contamination of waterways to safeguard aquatic ecosystems and ensure sustainable use.
