UAV Remote Sensing

A method of gathering data on agricultural land conditions using specialized sensors mounted on unmanned aerial vehicles.

Также говорят: drone crop monitoring, precision agriculture remote sensing, aerial field survey, UAV mapping

UAV remote sensing allows agronomists to promptly assess crop conditions, identifying areas with nitrogen deficiencies, signs of diseases, or pests long before visible symptoms emerge. Data is collected through multispectral imagery, which is converted into vegetation indices that reflect actual photosynthetic activity.

The use of drones is most effective during critical growth stages when precise fertilizer or pesticide application is required. Utilizing application maps generated from flight data enables resource optimization by shifting from blanket treatments to variable rate application.

Typical mistakes include failing to calibrate equipment under changing lighting conditions and selecting incorrect flight times, which leads to data distortion. Additionally, practitioners often overlook the necessity of ground-truthing, where digital maps must be verified through direct field inspection.
