Phyto-examination

Phyto-examination is a comprehensive laboratory analysis of seeds or plants to detect latent infections and assess their phytosanitary status.

Также говорят: seed health testing, phytopathological analysis, seed pathology

The main purpose of phyto-examination is to determine the species composition of pathogens located on the surface or inside seeds. This allows agronomists to make informed decisions regarding the need for seed treatment and to select the most effective active ingredients for crop protection.

The procedure is carried out before the sowing season by analyzing samples from each seed lot. The results directly influence the plant protection strategy, helping to prevent widespread fungal or bacterial infections during early vegetation stages.

A common error is taking non-representative samples that do not reflect the actual state of the entire lot, or ignoring latent infections, which leads to significant losses in germination and the development of seedling diseases.
