Genetic potential

The maximum productivity of a crop variety or hybrid determined by its DNA, which can be achieved under optimal environmental and management conditions.

Также говорят: yield potential, biological potential, genetic capacity

Genetic potential sets the upper limit for crop yield and quality. Farmers analyze this parameter when selecting seeds to ensure that the chosen variety's requirements align with the soil fertility and climatic conditions of their fields.

The expression of this potential depends entirely on management practices: soil preparation, balanced nutrient application, pest management, and irrigation. Without proper agronomic support, plants fail to reach their biological capacity, as environmental constraints become the limiting factor.

A common mistake is choosing high-potential hybrids for low-input farming systems. When management practices do not match the genetic requirements of the plant, the investment in premium seed is wasted because the crop remains under stress and cannot fulfill its production cycle.
