Seed incrustation is used to protect emerging seedlings from soil-borne diseases and pests. Unlike simple coating, this process utilizes specialized polymers to lock active ingredients onto the seed coat, preventing dusting and loss during mechanical handling and sowing.
The practice is widely adopted for field crops to enhance germination rates and ensure uniform seedling emergence under varying soil conditions. By keeping nutrients and protectants directly on the seed, the method improves the efficiency of input utilization.
A common mistake involves using incorrect concentrations of film-forming agents, which can lead to seed clumping or reduced viability. Improper drying of the seeds after the treatment process can also cause significant damage to the germination potential of the batch.
