Soil solution concentration

This is the level of mineral salts dissolved in soil moisture, which dictates the ability of plant roots to absorb water and essential nutrients.

Также говорят: soil salinity, soil solution conductivity, EC level

The concentration of the soil solution influences osmotic pressure. If the concentration is too high, the roots struggle to take up water, which leads to physiological drought even when soil moisture appears adequate.

Farmers monitor this parameter primarily during fertigation using conductivity meters to measure electrical conductivity (EC). Keeping the salt levels within an optimal range ensures that plants receive nutrients efficiently without experiencing salt stress.

A common mistake is applying concentrated fertilizers without sufficient irrigation. This error causes root burn and creates a nutrient imbalance, preventing the plant from absorbing other vital elements present in the soil profile.
