Adjuvant
A substance added to a pesticide or fertilizer formulation to improve its performance, adhesion to plant surfaces, and absorption efficiency.
Также говорят: surfactant, spreader, sticker, wetting agent
Adjuvants are essential additives that modify the physical properties of spray solutions. By reducing the surface tension of droplets, they ensure that the active ingredient covers the leaf surface evenly and resists being washed away by rain or irrigation.
These substances are particularly effective on plants with waxy or hairy leaves that naturally repel water. Using an adjuvant allows for more consistent coverage and often permits a reduction in the total amount of active ingredients needed, leading to more economical and environmentally friendly crop protection.
Common mistakes include improper mixing order, which can cause the product to clump or foam, and overdosing, which can damage the plant's cuticle. Always add the adjuvant to the tank mix last under constant agitation and ensure compatibility with other chemicals by performing a small-scale jar test.
