Sulfate fertilizers are primarily used to correct sulfur deficiency, which is common in sandy soils or intensive cropping systems. They play a critical role in enhancing nitrogen use efficiency, ultimately improving the protein content and yield quality of crops like oilseeds and cereals.
Application is most effective during pre-sowing cultivation or as early-season top dressing. Providing sulfate in early growth stages ensures that plants have immediate access to nutrients when soil microbial activity is still low.
A common mistake is surface application on dry soil without incorporation, which restricts nutrient uptake by roots. Growers should also be cautious to avoid over-application, as excessive use can potentially alter soil pH levels in the rhizosphere.
