Common sickleweed (Falcaria vulgaris) is a perennial root-sprouting weed belonging to the Apiaceae (carrot) family. It is recognized by its distinct, sickle-shaped leaflets and deeply penetrating root system, which makes it a persistent challenge for modern agriculture and crop production.

This weed is commonly found in grain fields, meadows, and pastures across temperate regions. It thrives in well-drained, lime-rich soils and is particularly problematic in uncultivated areas or neglected lands, where it can rapidly spread via its extensive underground root network, establishing dense colonies that are difficult to eradicate.

The biology of Falcaria vulgaris is defined by its robust, taproot-like system that extends deep into the soil profile. It reproduces both by seeds, which are highly persistent in the soil seed bank, and vegetatively through adventitious buds on its roots.
