This plant is well-known for its aggressive growth habit, allowing it to form dense, monocultural mats that can easily outcompete desirable vegetation in pastures and agricultural fields.
The weed is commonly found in grasslands, meadows, forest clearings, and forage crop fields. It thrives in well-drained but moist soils and is particularly problematic in permanent pastures, meadows, and sometimes in low-maintenance cereal fields. It is widely distributed across temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere.
