Agalinis setacea, commonly known as threadleaf false foxglove, is an annual herbaceous plant in the Orobanchaceae family. This species is classified as a facultative hemiparasite, meaning it can survive on its own but thrives significantly better when attached to the root systems of surrounding plant species to obtain supplemental water and nutrients.
The plant is native to North America, with its distribution centered primarily in the southeastern and midwestern United States. It favors open habitats such as dry prairies, pine barrens, and sandy openings. These environments provide the full sun exposure necessary for the plant to complete its life cycle effectively.
Botanically, Agalinis setacea is distinguished by its thin, needle-like, or "thread-like" leaves that give the plant a delicate, airy appearance. The stems are upright and branching, typically reaching heights of 30 to 70 cm.
