Snow tussock

Snow tussock (Chionochloa flavescens) is a robust perennial grass belonging to the Poaceae family. This species is widely recognized for its dense, fountain-like habit, forming large clumps that are characteristic of the high-altitude landscapes of New Zealand.

Native to the subalpine regions of New Zealand, the species is perfectly adapted to cool climates and exposed environments. Its natural distribution is found in mountainous terrains, where it thrives in conditions that would be challenging for many other species, demonstrating significant resilience.

It is essential to ensure that the site does not retain excess water, as the roots are susceptible to rot under anaerobic conditions.
