Crassula perfoliata L., commonly known in cultivation as the Airplane plant, is a perennial succulent species belonging to the Crassulaceae family. This species is highly distinguished by its unique leaf structure, where fleshy leaves appear to be pierced by the stem, creating a striking architectural form that is prized in ornamental horticulture.

Native to the arid regions of South Africa, this culture has evolved to thrive in rocky, well-draining soils with intense sun exposure. In a controlled agricultural or greenhouse environment, it requires a specific climate profile that mimics its natural habitat, emphasizing high light intensity and precise water management to maintain vigor and prevent etiolation.

Botanically, the plant features robust, erect stems and distinctively shaped leaves that provide excellent water retention properties. The inflorescence consists of dense clusters of small, bright red or white flowers that provide significant visual interest. Its root system is relatively shallow, necessitating containers or beds with excellent aeration to prevent oxygen deprivation.

Successful production requires adherence to strict agrotechnical standards. The growing medium must be highly porous, typically composed of coarse sand, perlite, and a small fraction of loam. It is essential to allow the soil to dry out completely between irrigation events to prevent root decay, which is the most common cause of failure in succulent crops.

The primary economic use is within the professional nursery industry for interior design and landscaping. While generally hardy, the culture is susceptible to specific threats:
