Slender crabgrass (lat. Digitaria filiformis) is an annual grass species belonging to the Poaceae family. In agricultural science, it is recognized for its role in pasture management and land stabilization. While often perceived as a wild grass, it holds agricultural value in regions with poor soil quality where other high-maintenance forage crops fail to establish.

The plant originates primarily from North America. It is widely distributed across open, sandy environments and disturbed habitats. As an agricultural commodity, it is favored for its resilience and ability to thrive in nutrient-deficient substrates, making it an excellent candidate for the restoration of degraded grazing lands and soil stabilization projects.

Botanically, the plant is characterized by slender, erect stems ranging from 20 to 70 cm in height. The foliage is narrow and leaf sheaths are often glabrous or sparsely pubescent. The inflorescence consists of several delicate racemes, providing a distinct appearance during the flowering stage. Its root system is fibrous and effective at binding loose, sandy soil particles.

Climate and soil requirements are relatively straightforward: this grass thrives in warm temperatures and requires full sun exposure. It prefers well-drained, sandy or gravelly soils. Regarding management, it is a low-input crop; cultivation generally involves minimal tillage, as the plant relies on natural reseeding to maintain population density year after year.
