Originating from the African continent, this species is naturally found in savannas and open woodlands. Its range has expanded due to its agricultural utility, as farmers and agronomists have identified its potential for rehabilitating degraded soils and providing consistent biomass for livestock grazing in warm, arid to semi-arid regions.
