Sargent's cypress (Hesperocyparis sargentii) is a perennial coniferous tree within the Cupressaceae family. The tree originates from the coastal ranges of California, USA. Its natural range is concentrated in chaparral and woodland habitats. Due to its evolutionary history, it has become perfectly adapted to the dry, Mediterranean-style climate characterized by hot, arid summers and mild, wet winters, often surviving in areas prone to periodic fire disturbances.
