Saucer magnolia

Saucer magnolia (Magnolia x soulangeana) is a deciduous hybrid shrub or small tree belonging to the Magnoliaceae family. It is widely recognized as one of the most stunning ornamental plants, resulting from a cross between Magnolia denudata and Magnolia liliiflora, created in France in the early 19th century.

The origin of this species dates back to 1820. Today, it is distributed across temperate and subtropical regions worldwide, where it is favored for its remarkable spring floral display. The plant is prized for its ability to produce large, cup-shaped flowers that bloom on bare branches, signaling the arrival of spring.

Botanically, it features smooth, gray bark and large, deep green leaves that appear after the flowering period. The plant can reach a height of up to 6–8 meters under favorable conditions. It is known for its vigor and relatively fast growth rate compared to other species within the Magnolia genus, making it a staple in professional horticulture.
