Horse mint (Mentha longifolia) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family. The plant produces distinctive, dense, terminal spike-like inflorescences filled with numerous small purple, pink, or white flowers.
The native range of this species extends across Europe, parts of Asia, and North Africa. It is highly adapted to wet and damp environments, frequently found in the wild along riverbanks, ditches, and marshy meadows. Due to its robust nature and rapid vegetative propagation via underground stolons, it has become an important crop for commercial production in various temperate regions worldwide.
For successful agricultural cultivation, horse mint requires deep, fertile, and consistently moist soils with neutral to slightly acidic pH levels.
