The native range of the ancestral species is concentrated in tropical and subtropical climates, particularly in humid forest environments. In agricultural and horticultural terms, these hybrids are cultivated as specialized crops that require controlled environments. Botanically, Selaginella hybrids consist of stems covered in small, scale-like microphylls.
