This pathogen specifically targets plants within the Amaranthaceae family, with Gomphrena globosa being its primary host in horticultural settings.
The disease primarily affects the leaves, stems, and bracts of the host plant. By invading the plant tissues, the fungus disrupts the normal physiological processes, particularly photosynthesis. This loss of photosynthetic capacity leads to stunted growth, early defoliation, and a significant reduction in the aesthetic value of the plants, which is particularly detrimental in landscape and floral production.
