It is classified as a systemic mycosis, meaning the infection spreads throughout the plant's internal conduits, disrupting the flow of water and nutrients. This type of disease is particularly challenging due to its ability to remain dormant within tissues before symptoms become visibly apparent.
The host range of Amesia primarily includes ornamental plants and specific flower varieties grown in greenhouse conditions. In some agricultural contexts, it can affect fruit-bearing shrubs, where the infection concentrates in the root system and the crown area. Susceptibility is often higher in plants that have been stressed by environmental factors or mechanical injuries.
The clinical signs of an Amesia infection often begin with chlorosis, or the yellowing of foliage, starting from the lower leaves. As the disease advances, leaves exhibit wilting despite adequate soil moisture, which is a classic indication of a vascular blockage.
