Description
Amphilogia is a specific fungal plant disease caused by members of the Amphilogia genus. From the perspective of modern phytopathology, this infection is classified as a mycosis that primarily affects the tissues of aerial plant organs, causing disturbances in physiological processes and the overall metabolism of the plant organism.
This pathogen is most frequently recorded on ornamental woody crops and certain types of shrubs. Under intensive farming conditions, it may spread to closely related species, propagating through conidial sporulation, which is carried by wind, raindrops, or insect vectors.
The primary symptoms of the infection include the appearance of chlorotic spots, which eventually develop into necrotic lesions. A characteristic coating consisting of fungal mycelium and spores forms on the surface of leaves and young shoots, leading to premature leaf drop and stem curvature.
The development of Amphilogia is favored by periods of high humidity and moderate temperatures, which create ideal conditions for spore germination. Moisture stagnation in dense plantings and a lack of proper canopy aeration are critical factors that trigger the mass spread of the infection within a plot.
The economic impact of the disease lies in a significant reduction of the plant's photosynthetic activity, leading to a weakened immune system and lower overall productivity. In cases of severe infestation, shoot dieback and stunted biomass growth are observed, which is unacceptable in nurseries and ornamental gardening.
Protection measures include a comprehensive approach:
- Adhering to planting density schemes to ensure proper airflow.
- Timely sanitary pruning of infected plant parts.
- Application of systemic fungicides during the growing season.
- Prophylactic treatment with copper-based preparations before the start of active sap flow.
