As an ascomycete pathogen, it primarily targets foliage, leading to cellular damage and the subsequent decline of the plant's health. Understanding the biological nature of this fungus is essential for mitigating its spread in commercial forestry, nurseries, and sensitive landscape plantations.

The host range of Amycosphaerella includes several species of trees and woody shrubs, with prominent records of infection observed in Eucalyptus plantations. The pathogen attacks healthy tissue, causing stress that can result in significant growth suppression. Because it can survive on leaf litter and debris, the fungus often remains present in the environment even after the growing season ends.

Symptoms of the disease are characterized by distinct necrotic lesions on leaves. Initially appearing as small, chlorotic, or dark spots, these lesions gradually enlarge, often developing a defined border.
