They are scientifically noted for their unique asci structure, featuring a distinct apical ring that facilitates spore dispersal in water.
The primary hosts for this fungus include aquatic vegetation, hydroponic crops, and submerged wooden materials used in agricultural infrastructure. The fungus targets the root systems and stems of plants continuously exposed to water. When conditions are conducive to fungal growth, Annulatascus can compromise the integrity of plant tissues, leading to systemic weakness and susceptibility to secondary infections.
