Aristastoma leaf spot is a fungal disease caused by the pathogen Aristastoma camarographioides. This fungus acts as a specialized plant pathogen that primarily affects the foliage of certain horticultural crops. It is characterized by the development of specific necrotic lesions that disrupt the photosynthetic capacity of the host plant.

The disease is most commonly associated with infections in strawberry plants (Fragaria species). The fungus exploits the host's leaf tissues to complete its life cycle, producing reproductive structures that ensure the survival of the pathogen. Spread occurs through environmental vectors such as splashing rain, irrigation water, and the movement of workers or machinery through the fields.

Symptoms initially manifest as small chlorotic spots on the leaves, which eventually expand into irregular, necrotic lesions. These spots typically exhibit a dark brown to black margin as they mature. A diagnostic hallmark of Aristastoma camarographioides is the appearance of pycnidia—small, pinhead-sized fruiting bodies—clustered within the centers of the necrotic spots, which can be observed under low magnification.

In dense plant canopies where humidity is trapped, the pathogen can multiply rapidly, leading to widespread foliage damage and potentially severe defoliation if left unchecked.
