Arrhenia lobata is a species of agaric fungus in the family Hygrophoraceae. In the context of agronomy and soil science, it is recognized as a fungal organism that parasitizes bryophytes (mosses). While it primarily colonizes non-vascular plants, its presence is a significant biological marker for environmental stress in agricultural landscapes, specifically in areas prone to waterlogging.

The pathogen is a basidiomycete that thrives in extreme humidity. It functions as a specialized parasite of mosses, decomposing the plant material through the secretion of enzymes. This biological activity is most intensive during periods of consistent high moisture, which are typical in poorly drained or flood-irrigated agricultural fields.

The host range is largely confined to bryophytes. However, the indirect impact on crop production is significant because the habitat conditions favored by Arrhenia lobata are detrimental to most commercial crops. Its presence often indicates that soil aeration is compromised, preventing proper root respiration and nutrient uptake for surrounding cultivated plants.

Symptomatology involves the emergence of distinctive, lobed or funnel-shaped fruit bodies that are gray-brown in color, appearing directly on moss mats.
