This fungus acts as a primary pathogen that affects keratinized tissues in animals, representing a significant concern for biosecurity in livestock management and animal husbandry environments.
The pathogen is classified as a zoophilic dermatophyte, widely recognized in specific geographical regions for its ability to infect a broad range of hosts. It primarily targets the epidermis and hair follicles, utilizing keratin as its main nutrient source. In agricultural settings, the presence of this fungus is often linked to suboptimal sanitary conditions within housing facilities for livestock.
The clinical signs of infection include alopecia (hair loss), erythema (reddening of the skin), and the formation of crusts or scales.
