While not a primary pathogen of major commercial crops, its presence serves as an ecological indicator of high humidity and localized necrotic processes within a plant habitat.

The fungus is characterized by the production of gelatinous or mucilaginous fruiting bodies that contain basidiospores. Unlike obligate plant parasites that actively invade vascular systems, Atractogloea stillata typically colonizes the surface of bark, wood, or fungal substrates. Because it requires a constant film of moisture on the substrate to initiate sporulation, it is most active during cool, misty seasons or in poorly ventilated areas where organic debris is allowed to accumulate over long periods.
