The disease mechanism involves the colonization of plant tissues, typically entering through wounds, insect-made lesions, or natural openings. Once inside, the bacteria multiply rapidly, especially in tissues with high water content, leading to systemic infection and the breakdown of the pectin matrix that holds cells together.
