Black node disease, caused by the fungus Boeremia diversispora, is a significant fungal infection that primarily affects bean crops. The pathogen is a persistent organism capable of surviving in infected crop debris and soil, making it a challenging threat to agricultural fields where proper sanitation is overlooked.

The primary host for this pathogen is the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris). The fungus infects the host by colonizing plant tissues, which disrupts the structural integrity of stems and pods, ultimately leading to significant physiological stress for the crop during its critical growth phases.

Symptoms are characterized by the development of dark, necrotic nodes or lesions on stems, leaf petioles, and pods.
