Blumeria graminis is a highly specialized fungal pathogen that causes powdery mildew in various cereal crops. As an obligate biotroph, it relies exclusively on living host tissue to complete its life cycle, which makes it a persistent challenge for farmers in both intensive and extensive cropping systems.
The primary hosts include wheat, barley, rye, and oats, alongside a wide range of wild grasses that often serve as local reservoirs for the pathogen.
