Blumeriella kerriae is a fungal pathogen responsible for causing leaf spot disease, specifically targeting members of the Rosaceae family. This pathogen, scientifically recognized as an ascomycete fungus, is a significant threat to the aesthetic value and physiological health of ornamental shrubs, frequently leading to premature defoliation.

The primary host for this fungus is Kerria japonica (Japanese rose). The pathogen specifically targets the leaves, causing tissue breakdown. While it primarily affects the foliage, severe infections can weaken the entire plant structure, making it more susceptible to environmental stressors and other secondary pathogens during the dormant season.

The characteristic symptoms begin as small, reddish-brown spots on the leaf surface. As the infection progresses, these spots expand, often developing a darker, necrotic center.
