Important note: Boletus separans (currently classified as Butyriboletus separans) is not a plant disease. It is a mycorrhizal fungus that forms symbiotic relationships with hardwood trees. In forestry and botany, it is recognized as a beneficial organism rather than a pathogen.

The organism functions through its mycelial network, which colonizes the rhizosphere of various trees. Unlike plant pathogens that cause decay or necrosis, this fungus provides essential nutrients and water to the host tree roots in exchange for sugars produced via photosynthesis.
