Botryobasidiaceae is a family of basidiomycetous fungi that includes several significant plant pathogens. These fungi are primarily responsible for causing soil-borne diseases, including root rots, stem blights, and various web-blight conditions that devastate both field and greenhouse crops.

The host range of Botryobasidiaceae is diverse, affecting various agricultural crops such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and cereal grains. The pathogen typically attacks the base of the plant, invading the stem and roots, which disrupts the plant's ability to uptake water and essential minerals from the soil.

Symptoms of an infection often begin with the appearance of a delicate, white or grayish web-like mycelium covering the lower portions of the stems and the surrounding soil surface.
