Botrytis pseudocinerea is a fungal pathogen responsible for causing gray mold infections in various crops. While morphologically similar to the well-known Botrytis cinerea, it is distinct in its genetic profile and sensitivity to specific fungicides, which is a vital consideration for effective integrated pest management in modern agriculture.
The primary host for this fungus is the grapevine, though it can affect a diverse range of horticultural and vegetable species. The pathogen specifically targets sensitive tissues such as blossoms, berries, and young shoots, often leading to significant yield losses if left unmanaged during susceptible growth stages.
Symptoms of the infection typically appear as necrotic lesions on plant tissues, followed by the development of a characteristic gray, fuzzy mycelium and conidiophores.
