Description
Burrowing nematode disease is caused by the phytoparasitic nematode of the genus Radopholus, most notably Radopholus similis. These endoparasites penetrate the roots of host plants, creating tunnels and cavities as they feed on root tissues, which significantly impairs the root's ability to function.
This pathogen has a vast host range, affecting various tropical and subtropical crops, including bananas, citrus, and ornamental plants. It also poses a threat to many horticultural crops, including watermelons. Due to its ability to persist in both soil and roots, it is considered one of the most destructive plant-parasitic nematodes worldwide.

The disease is primarily spread through the transportation of infected soil or infested planting materials such as rhizomes, tubers, or cuttings.
