This pathogen typically affects a range of deciduous and coniferous tree species. In agricultural settings, it is most frequently observed in fruit orchards and ornamental gardens, particularly on trees that are neglected, aging, or suffering from environmental stress, which compromises their natural defense mechanisms.

The symptoms of infestation are characterized by the development of wedge-shaped growths or patches on the bark surface. As the colony expands, it leads to the hardening, cracking, and eventual necrosis of the bark layers. Essential practices include regular pruning to ensure adequate light penetration and air movement through the canopy.
