Camaropella lutea is a fungal pathogen that targets various woody plant species, causing significant damage to the bark and inner tissues. As a specialized phytopathogen, it disrupts the physiological balance of the tree, leading to restricted nutrient flow and the eventual decline of affected branches or the entire host plant.
The disease primarily affects deciduous trees, with a notable impact on birch species and other landscape or forest trees. It establishes itself within the cambium layer, slowly weakening the tree's structural integrity. In dense environments like nurseries or managed forests, the pathogen can spread rapidly if left unmanaged, leading to severe economic losses.
Symptoms often manifest as necrotic, yellowish lesions on the bark, which later crack and allow for secondary decay. Infected trees show signs of decline, such as premature chlorosis and leaf drop, followed by branch dieback. The presence of tiny reproductive structures, such as pycnidia, may be visible on the surface of the affected bark during the active growth phase of the fungus.
