Ceuthodiplospora leaf spot is a fungal disease caused by pathogens of the Ceuthodiplospora genus. This fungus primarily affects the foliage and stems of various plant species, disrupting metabolic processes and weakening the overall health of the host plant. It acts as an opportunistic pathogen that thrives in environments where host plants lack sufficient vigor.
The disease manifests as distinct necrotic spots on leaves and stems. As the infection progresses, these lesions often turn dark brown or greyish, accompanied by the development of tiny, black, pimple-like structures known as pycnidia. These structures are the sites where the fungus produces its spores, facilitating the further spread of the disease to adjacent healthy tissues or neighboring plants.
High humidity, frequent rainfall, and stagnant air are the primary drivers of the spread of Ceuthodiplospora. The spores are typically dispersed by wind, water splashes, or even by contaminated garden tools during pruning.
