This organism typically impacts greenhouse-grown crops, including seedlings, ornamental plants, and various vegetables grown in hydroculture. It thrives in environments where high moisture levels and adequate light coincide, specifically targeting areas with exposed soil, rockwool, or other inert growing media.

The primary symptom of infestation is the emergence of a slimy, bright green to yellowish-green biofilm on the surface of the growing medium or the base of stems.
