Chromelosporium rot is a plant disease caused by the fungus Chromelosporium fulvum, which is the asexual stage of Peziza ostracoderma. This pathogen is commonly associated with moist, organic-rich environments and is frequently identified in commercial greenhouse production systems.

This fungus primarily affects various vegetable crops and is notably recognized as a competitive contaminant in mushroom cultivation. It colonizes the surface of the soil or substrate, directly impacting the nutrient uptake and structural integrity of the affected host plants.

The primary symptom is the appearance of dense, golden-brown or yellowish-tan mycelial mats on the soil or plant surfaces. As the infection progresses, it can cause severe chlorosis, wilting, and tissue necrosis, which eventually leads to the death of the host organism.

The development of the fungus is driven by high relative humidity, poor ventilation, and stagnant air within greenhouse environments. Spores are easily dispersed by wind, water splashing, or human activity, making the disease highly contagious once a localized infection is established.
