Under high humidity conditions, a velvety mass of spores becomes visible on the surface of these spots. This necrotic tissue causes premature senescence of leaves, significantly hindering the plant's photosynthetic capacity.

The pathogen flourishes in environments with high humidity (often above 80%) and moderate temperatures between 20°C and 25°C. Spores are dispersed rapidly through air currents, splashing water from irrigation or rainfall, and physical contact via farming tools. The fungus survives unfavorable seasons in soil debris or contaminated seeds.

By killing leaf tissue, the fungus stunts overall plant growth, causes flower or fruit drop, and, in severe cases, leads to complete crop failure if not managed correctly in controlled-environment agriculture.
