Clavaria acuta is a species of fungus that primarily acts as a saprotroph, decomposing organic matter within the soil. In agricultural settings, while not always considered a primary pathogen, its presence in the rhizosphere can signal poor soil drainage and excessive humidity, which can affect the health of sensitive crops.

The causal agent is a fungus that produces distinct fruiting bodies. Unlike aggressive pathogens that directly infect healthy tissue, this fungus typically colonizes decaying material, though high population densities in the rhizosphere can compete with plant roots for nutrients and space, causing stress to the host plant.
