The fungus develops through a mycelial network that colonizes soils rich in organic debris. Its growth is primarily driven by high moisture content and reduced soil aeration, which prevents the rapid decomposition of thatch and provides the necessary substrate for the fungus to produce its distinct reproductive structures.
