The crested coral fungus (Clavulina coralloides) is a biological species belonging to the family Clavulinaceae. It is essential to clarify that this fungus is not a plant disease or a crop pathogen. In agronomic and horticultural science, it is recognized strictly as a saprotrophic organism that decomposes organic matter, posing no threat to the vitality of commercial or ornamental plants.

The fungus operates as a decomposer, breaking down complex organic molecules such as cellulose and lignin found in dead plant debris.
