Coccodiella is a genus of ascomycetous fungi responsible for causing localized infections on various plant hosts, primarily woody species. These fungi typically manifest as distinct leaf spots, where the pathogen colonizes the leaf tissue to draw nutrients, which eventually leads to the disruption of normal plant physiological functions such as photosynthesis.
The host range of Coccodiella includes a variety of trees and shrubs. Depending on the species, the infection can focus on the foliage, causing localized chlorosis and necrosis. The structural integrity of the leaf is compromised as the fungus develops its stroma, which appears as raised, dark spots on the leaf surface, serving as the primary site for spore dispersal.

As the disease progresses, these lesions may merge, resulting in large, necrotic patches that force the leaf to curl and drop prematurely.
