Its specific nomenclature suggests an adaptation to high-altitude and high-humidity environments, where it thrives most effectively.
The host range for this pathogen includes a wide variety of leguminous plants, cereals, and perennial crops. The fungus invades the host via spores that penetrate the plant surface, often utilizing natural openings or wounds. Once inside, it secretes enzymes that degrade cell walls, allowing the fungus to feed on the host's nutrients and multiply rapidly.
Key symptoms of the infection include the appearance of dark, sunken spots on leaves, stems, and fruits. These lesions are often encircled by a darker margin.
