Colletotrichum indonesiense is a fungal pathogen belonging to the Colletotrichum genus, known for causing significant anthracnose diseases in various plant species. This fungus is widely recognized for its ability to devastate both agricultural and horticultural crops, significantly impacting global production yields.
The host range of Colletotrichum indonesiense includes a wide variety of botanical families, notably affecting legumes, coffee, and various tropical fruit-bearing trees. It is a hemibiotrophic pathogen that initially infects the plant cells without killing them, later switching to a necrotrophic phase that leads to tissue necrosis and plant death.
Key symptoms and signs include sunken, necrotic lesions on leaves, stems, and fruits. These spots often grow in size and darken, eventually forming acervuli which produce masses of spores under high humidity. Lesions on fruits can lead to rapid decay, rendering the harvest completely unmarketable.
