Colletotrichum omnivorum is a fungal pathogen responsible for causing anthracnose, a severe disease affecting a wide range of plants. This pathogen is known for its broad host range, impacting various ornamental plants, vegetables, and specialized agricultural crops. It thrives by colonizing plant tissues and deriving nutrients, which leads to tissue necrosis and structural decline.

The host range of this fungus is extensive, covering various monocot and dicot species. It is particularly problematic in nursery environments and field production where host density is high and environmental conditions are managed. The pathogen can survive for extended periods in infected debris, soil, and seeds, acting as a primary source of inoculum for subsequent seasons.

Symptoms typically manifest as small, water-soaked lesions that rapidly expand and turn dark brown or black. As the infection progresses, these lesions become depressed, often developing a distinct border.
