Coprinopsis ammophilae is a mushroom species within the Psathyrellaceae family. While primarily recognized as a saprotrophic fungus, it is often associated with the root systems of dune-stabilizing grasses, making it a subject of interest in ecological agronomy and soil restoration projects.
The fungus acts as a biological agent in the decomposition of organic matter within the rhizosphere of its host plants. In extreme environmental conditions, its presence can influence the nutrient cycle and the overall structural integrity of the root environment, particularly in sandy soil ecosystems where nitrogen availability is limited.
The host plants mainly include various species of the genus Ammophila. While not a conventional agricultural pathogen, its presence in managed coastal landscapes can be an indicator of declining plant health due to soil exhaustion or excessive moisture accumulation around the roots.
